Learn C, C++
As a newbie programmer, I was always on a lookout for some tutorials/books
which would magically make me a topcoder. I never found that magic
tutorial/book. However, having spent a lot of man-hours reading all sorts of
material, following are the things I can now recommend;
- First read the following C, C++ FAQ from
FAQS.org
C (reading)
C++ (reading)
Highly recommended
Everything that you read in the books mentioned above is of no use
unless you put it to actual use. 99% of what I have learnt about
programming is by writing and debugging code, reading others code and the best (in hindsight only) debugging code that somebody else has written.
- If you are in college, enroll for a class that has good programming
projects
- Contribute to open source. This is a great way to to write code and
read/understand/debug code written by others.
- Read these books
